In the present-day scenario, children are not just required to get good grades in their academic pursuits. The need is to have holistic development. As the word suggests, it is an amalgamation of multiple attributes including but not limited to emotional intelligence, physical skills, and social and spiritual life skills.

It is becoming imperative to have a curriculum that focuses on the holistic development for girls and boys who are coming of age and would soon have to explore the world beyond their schools. There are several cases of good students failing to adapt to life after school and many students who drifted a little too far. These and many such situations have been caused due to the lack of holistic development.
A student today needs to have the intelligence and skills to handle several requirements and situations beyond their academic curriculum. Let’s go through some of them mentioned below –
Social Intelligence
Whether at school, home, neighborhood or any other place, every child will come across children and adults who would be a temporary or permanent part of their social circle. A child should be able to interact with these peers or seniors suitably so that they reciprocate appropriately.
Emotional Intelligence
All our lives seem more complicated than it was a decade ago. The next decade will have some more challenges. Holistic Development for girls and boys is extremely important from a young age so that these children can adapt to the challenges today and in the future. Being able to use their emotions positively to achieve a goal or overcome an obstacle is an extremely important skill that children should develop.
Self-dependence
Imagine your child completing their schooling in India and then being given an opportunity to study overseas. If they have not been taught to take care of themselves for basics like preparing their own food, washing the dishes and clothes, shopping for the weekly ration, how do you imagine the child would manage in a different country where you are not them to help them. Making your child independent should be the primary goal of every parent so that they can sustain themselves with little to no help.
While there are so many other aspects to discuss, the evolution of education, be it providing holistic development for children or spearheading into technology-driven education in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Delhi or any two-tier city in India, the need for enhancing the boundaries of education has been established. As teachers and parents, we need to help our children develop faster and better than we did.
